"Het is een mooi staaltje van toeval. Juist om de hoek bij Galerie Mulier Mulier in Knokke staat sinds kort een permanente installatie van Arne Quinze, de Belgische sterdesigner die volgens diverse bloggers de mosterd heeft gehaald bij Kawamata (°1953). Quinze heeft er pas een gigantische, nieuwe installatie bij, op een brug in het Ranse Rouen. De bescheiden Japanner blijft er diplomatisch bij en merkt fijntjes op: "Quinze werkt met een soort Mikado-stijl zonder context. Voor mij is context juist zeer belangrijk." Het belang van de (sociale) context blijkt uit de gedegen research .... "

Forget sunbathing in Sardinia. For a more cultured seaside experience, Knokke-Heist, by the North Sea, is perhaps the only resort where you can buy a Damien Hirst along the boardwalk. The aristocratic and wealthy Belgians and Netherlanders, who are drawn to the town's charm and lax tax policy, like to play golf or parade their Jaguar convertibles on the main seafront square (generally known as Place M'as-tu-vu, or Look-at-Me-Place). But, above all else, they are attracted to this longtime artists' colony for the art: even the casino has murals by René Magritte and Keith Haring, and there are about 50 galleries in town. Galleries André Simoens, Patrick De Brock and Mulier Mulier deal in such impressive rosters that, together, they read like a Belgian Art Basel.
